Children in the garden "The Bargee Boys"
The Bargee Boys ate working well together fetching and Ceri g all of the posted plants to safety.
We managed to get them all in the shade and watered in an hour. I was so proud of them both.
This year I would love to get my own work unit so that I can continue to grow and sell my plants and produce.
A lot of what I will do will have to be on line to start off with and then I will look at markets, shows and events. I will also look at selling to local small independent bussiness too.
Lemon Balm
This Lemon Balm lives on and is from my grandfather in law. I have managed to pot of up and nurse it though the winter of 2018
I now have a health plant that I can take cuttings from.
I have posted it due to it being able to grow well and spread.
I am aiming to not just maintain the garden at 409 this year but also two other gardens once a month to grow more shrubs, shedges, grasses and fruit bushes.
I shale see how things go this year and how involved the children can be.
Home grown Rosemary
For about three years now I have been growing my own Rosemary in pots. I have done this due to never truly having a fixed abode. That way I can take my plants with me when I move. It also makes watering them more manageable if there is a drout.
What I am planting to do this summer is split the plant and see if in can grow it on. That way I can look at possibly selling on the offspring or seeping them for another plant that I would like in the garden.
Happy Easter 2019
Since January 2019 I have been looking at different ways of cooking and reducing my carbon foot print. One of my pet hates in Single use plastics, yet everything seam to be coted in the stuff.
So I have been using my Healthy Start Vouchers to by fresh fruit and veg and not frozen. Sadly you can not use Healthy Start Vouchers to buy tined fruit or veegeables.
So buy buying fresh I have been aiming for UK produces only to begin with and then European. I have been looking at preserving fresh fruit and vegetables and trying different ways to give them to my children.
So far I have used the following ways, blending, drying, juicing, blanching, storing in glass jars, fridge and freezer.
I have found so of these only take a few minuets and other hours and even days. When time is important to many of use it to more convenieant to just "shop and go" instead of home grow, and to prepare foods that are in season so that you have food for when the season change and the bad weather kicks in.
With covenant foods and shops on every corner people do not really have to think about what could happen if the corner shops where to close and food suppliers becomes rationed.
Yet I think that it is important to learn a few ways of storing and preparing food just incase the invertible happened and also so that the future generation now when food comes form the ways that is produced.
So I will continue to try and learn new cooking skills and use local produce when ever I can.
