3 Months a head! By Miss K L Slomczynski

 3 months a head!

Again it is September and in all of the retail outlets "It's Christmas!"  Before Halloween or Bone-fire night!

Earlier in the year you could buy Easter Eggs before the date Jesus was even dead!

To me I personal feel that the magic of life is gone.

When I was a child I always looked forward to certin times of the year beacuse of the joy they would bring to me.

The opperunity to Pick your own fruit from the local Farm where you lived instead of being able to buy Strawberries all year round.

Looking forward to ice cream in the summer and now you can get it 2047 like most things in the world just by pushing a few buttons.

It is a really challange to teach the futre generation about the magic of life that had in my childhood when socail media is showing christmas products being sold in September unless you have a business that is called "The Chirstmas Store." or "Forever Fall." were every thing you sell is to celabrate a speacail time of the year 247.

So I am even finding myslef now waiting to see the first Valentines Card for 2025 and Easter Egg.

I just hope that my children do not see then first.

So over the next few months I will be bloging about what you could do with your loved ones over the next 3 months.

But on a budget due to the cost of living, it will not belong before parents start worring about the big "C" and what you buy and how much to spend.

When most children are just happy with an empty box.

So this year that about one thing, what dose it really take to make you happy and your loved ones to smile?

WHAT PRODUCT(S) DO YOU USE FOR CLEANING?

When it is not Lemons?”

People say “we are what we eat.” but how can this be “when it is not lemons?”

One of the things that I started to do last year was reading the packaging of what I buy, this

made me look at where I buy things from and how much I spend.

For my main shopping I have been using Tesco's on line and have signed up to a fixed

monthly delivery service that means that I can have a delivery 3 days per week every month

providing I spend £40.00 per delivery.

This year I will shop around and see if I can cut my spending and only buy “lemons” and

 not be Sold a “LEMON.”

So last year I started looking at items and tried to STOP but any thing with Palm Oil in,

MSG and Artificial Sweeteners.

I am all for sugar and do not feel comfortable with eating a Chemistry set every meal so the

more basic the ingrediency the better. (personal chose)

So back to the Lemons, I hate it when something claims to have Lemons in but then it says

on the packaging, lemon flavouring, lemon essence.

I can not stand in the super market all day reading packaging so I do it at home when the

boys are a sleep. I also look at who things are packaged to try and reduce the amount of

products that I buy that have load of packaging that they do not need.

This year I aim to cook more at hoe form fresh so in January 2019 I will do my first shop of

the year and by December 2019 I aim to reduce the amount of LEMONS I buy, sugar, Palm

oil, MSG Artificial Sugar and packaging I use.

So the amount I will be spend on my January Shop is…

Making your own gifts and decorations this year.

Making your own gifts and decorations this year.

Re-Run December 20th 2021

This year now that both of my children are older I am looking at celebrating this year with them for the fist time and to try and teach them the true meaning of the festive season.

For me it is “The Gift of Giving” so we are in the process of doing this and celebrating Yule.

So this year their dad is already underway with making the boys their Yule gift and I am looking at decorating the house and what food and events that we are going to take place.

So it is the 20th November 2017 and a month before I will be looking at decorating the house and the tree.

So where do I start.?

One of the things that I am looking at is what I have in the house and how I can use what I have instead of buying things new and also about what I can forage from the !!br0ken!!

One thing that I have been looking at is the following links for inspiration and Facebook pages and group that I am in.

Cloves

one of the things that I am looking at for The festive season is buying Cloves.

What are Cloves?

Cloves are the aromatic flower buds of a tree in the family Myrtaceae, Syzygium aromaticum. They are native to the Maluku Islands in Indonesia, and are commonly used as a spice. Cloves are commercially harvested primarily in Bangladesh, Indonesia, India, Madagascar, Zanzibar, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Tanzania. Cloves are available throughout the year.

Buying them “Fair Trade”

http://www.fairtrade.org.uk/en/what-is-fairtrade

Because they they are from over seas I am looking at buying them fair trade and to also look at selling them whole sale when I set up my own business. I am looking at selling dried products for making things with in the future. Cloves can be brought al year and can be purchased form any supermarket so why use them them for the Winter Holidays what makes them so important?

Health benefit can be found by following the links below.

Cloves are a good source of manganese, selenium, magnesium, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin K, dietary fibre and vitamin C.

What do they have to do with the Winter Holidays?

With cloves coming to the UK from places like Indonesia but the region with the largest production is Zanzibar in eastern Africa; most people know of Cloves being Used in Mulled Wine and Christmas Cake.

Now that the UK is so divested with culture, and traditions it would be nice to see Cloves used more and why not start by using them at this time of the year to decorate the home and in cooking.

Make Cloved Orange: A Regency Pomander

This is the art of using Cloves and Oranges to decorate the home and to give as gifts of family and friends at this time of year. For the history y of Clove Orange: A Regency Pomander please follow this link below.

One thing that Make Clove Orange: A Regency Pomander look like are Christingles.

What is Christingle?

Christingle's is a lighted candle symbolizing Christ as the light of the world, held by children at a special Advent service originating in the Moravian Church.

It is sally on the First Sunday of advent which is a Christian way of celebrating this time of year. You can attend a Christingle celebration at your local church and get a Christingle as part of the services whilst collecting money for charity.

Happy New Year 2016 By Miss K L Slomczynski

Good Morning and a Happy New Year 2016 to everyone.

I hope that your New Year is full of  FUN in the Kitchen and that some of my use tips and advice that I provide help you to think of a different way of cooking and what you could use.

This Christmas I did not cook.  I spent Christmas Day with my loved ones who cooked for me.  I was so happy to have a day off from cooking and to just be able to put my feet up and enjoy and family home cooked meal.

This for Christmas we had Chicken and not Turkey but I did not mind, it was nice to have a change and a "Break form the Norm."

This week so far I have focused on only cooking stews with winter vegetables and meat from local butchers and selected stores that we use on our travels.

This is some thing that I will probably continue to do until about March.

WE still have some Elderberry Syrup on broad the NB Painted Lady that we made in September 2015 and some Home Made Wine which we made from Elder Flower/Elder Berry, and Rose hips with other added ingredient like Ginger.

WE have now had one Home-made wine bottled for Callan and Byrndly's 18th Birthday's with the help of their grandfather Mr Rayman Baxter.

I can not wait to start foraging again and making more "Towpath Culinary Delights" this Year.

I hope you enjoy reading my Blog.
